This policy explains what OutbackNav (the “app”, available at outbacknav.pages.dev) does with information. The app is operated by its owner, Scott Atkins, Western Australia. Contact details for privacy questions are on the app store listing or the website.
The app uses your browser’s local storage and IndexedDB to keep your trip plan, saved trips, vehicle profile, map preferences, avoid choices, offline map tiles and PRO licence status. You can delete all of this by clearing site data in your browser or uninstalling the app.
If you allow location access, your position is used on your device to show you on the map and to set the location of a hazard report you choose to submit. Your location is not tracked in the background and is not stored on our servers except as part of a hazard report you submit.
When you submit a hazard report, we store the hazard type, title, detail, the location you reported (latitude and longitude), a time stamp and an anonymous reporter code. The reporter code is a salted, one-way hash of your network address, used only to limit spam (for example, a maximum number of reports per hour). Your network address is not stored and the reporter code is never shown to other users. Reports are shown to all users until they expire.
To understand which features are used, the app sends events such as “trip shared” or “paywall viewed” with a small set of counts (for example, number of stops). Events do not include your name, email address, location history or route details, and they are not linked to you.
PRO subscriptions are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record. We do not receive or store your card details. Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy applies to payment information.
Hazard reports are hidden from other users once they expire. Anonymous event records are kept until we delete them; our standing practice is to delete records older than 12 months. Licence validation results are cached on our servers for 6 hours.
You can decline location access, avoid submitting hazard reports, and clear local data at any time. To ask us to remove a hazard report you submitted, contact us with the hazard’s time and place. We will act within 30 days.
The app is not directed at children under 16. Please don’t submit information about yourself if you are under 16.
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
